I don't know how anything is going to get past the US censors. Everyone will be screaming won't somebody think of the children!!
The only censors they will have to deal with is the channel it's airing on ... but that's MTV, and from what I understand they have a long history of being pussies.

I have not see season 2 of Skins 2 as yet but I had read on another site someone had a theory that it was not really Effy who whacked the twin with the rock but that she (Effy) was hallucinating - was this person right or waaaay off? I am leaning to waaaay off.
That was season three, and yes, the person is way off.

I'm not quite sure where MTV falls censorship wise in the US. It's a cable channel, so can they push it as far as the likes of HBO and Showtime, or with it being a fairly mainstream cable channel, I suspect heavily reliant on advertisers, are they practically as constrained as the US networks?

Most MTV series I've seen are censored in the same way as they would be on a US network.

Yes, MTV can legally show almost anything. It's just an issue of their advertisers pulling out due to pressure from groups like the Parents Television Council.

Good news - Skins has been recommissioned for two further series, so the full cycle of the next cast. Series 5 will be eight episodes long.

Episode 7!! What a crazy episode i loved it, a lot of people say this season is awful but i feel like the episodes are slowly getting back to what makes them great...maybe there's been a few iffy situations like the dead girl and quite melodramatic. I can't wait for the finale after what happened, very shocking.

Great finale episode - and yet again a complete contrast to the previous episode in it's style and tone. Looking forward to the third generation with much more confidence than I was after they axed the first cast - but they more than got away with it the first time, and no reason why they shouldn't get away with it again.

I was kinda disappointed with the finale. It sorta just fell flat for me. There really should have been two more episodes to completely wrap things up.

SPOILER (highlight to read)
Yeah the last two episodes were pretty lame. The whole John Foster storyline served no purpose at all. It was emotionally hollow, and devoid of any real meaning or rationality. What have we learned about the characters as a result of Freddie's murder? Absolutely nothing, because most of them don't even know it happened. All of the best and (generally) most well received episodes this season - Emily's, Cook's, Katie's, JJ's - had storylines that related back to a broader human element. Even the first generation's second season finale (as incredulous as it was at times) had substance because it actually explored the gang's reaction to Chris's death. The whole John Foster storyline simply relied on shock value, and as a result it failed dismally.

Yet still, as I've said before, Skins blessing is also its curse. Being written primarily by young, inexperienced writers is what has allowed Skins to break conventions and portray young people in a realistic manner (even though the scenarios are far from realistic). However, it also increases the likelihood of the writers making utterly stupid decisions. So as much as I have disliked the last couple of episodes, I will still always love Skins.

The producers have acknowledged this series has been too depressing and promise to lighten things up in series 5. They did the same though after series 2 - but after a lighter series 3 we ended up with a depressing series 4. It was nice though not to want to kill myself after the finale, which showed us clearly how much the series missed a Pandora episode. The biggest problem this year wasn't the writing or storylines - it's that they lost two episodes due to cutbacks when they already had an established cast of 9-10 characters. The next two series will only be eight episodes too, but at least they can cast accordingly with just 7-8 main characters.

I love too how what happened with Freddie has really divided opinion - I think the very strong reaction it got has absolutely proved it was the right decision, and I think leaving things somewhat unresolved was perfect. Would have been an awfully depressing finale if they'd all found out and would have took the focus away from the individual storylines which IMO all did reach a satisfactory conclusion. Not a lot may have been resolved - but at 18, life isn't resolved.

Really looking forward to series 5 and how the next generation works out. Many fans seem to feel the need to state a preference between the first and second generation of the cast (and from what I've read, the second generation is winning), but I think both were so good it doesn't really reflect the series to suggest one cast were inferior to the other.

What happened to Freddie didn't rile me up as much as it did with other people, i actually liked him (although he became very annoying this season up until Effy's episode) but i thought the writers knew what they were doing. I agree with John Foster, he was there for shock value he added nothing, it was a stunt and i didn't think Skins would pull that. I was happy Cook took 'revenge' at the end but it also felt cheap, like a Tarantino knock off. I just hope they can do a better gen, this one was hit and miss.

I guess one of the reasons that they left a lot of stuff open ended is that they're currently writing the Skins movie, that will feature primarily the second cast but also some of the first cast and one scene of the third cast.

I'm really not a fan of the movie idea as I think these things are best left unresolved - any attempt to resolve them will only end up disappointing.
